On Tuesday 30th JPS took part in the Spelling Bee competition, held at Wellington Silicon Oasis school. Well done to Veda Fernandes 6G, Oscar Dilworth 5F, Eshal Baig 4E, Kaiyan Wadhwani 3A and Eimaan Irfan, whom qulaified to represent their year groups.
At the Spelling Bee, each year group was faced with 10 rounds of very tricky words, which they needed to spell out verbally. The yr 6 participants were faced with words like: pandemonium, prejudicial, abysmal and slovenly. A huge congratulations goes to Veda for winning the Yr 6 competition and Kaiyan for winning the year 3 competition. Also well done to Oscar whom ended in a tie-breaker so went forward to a challenge round where he came 2nd. Well done to all participants – you’ve done yourselves and JPS proud! On Friday, 42 keen debaters attended the Primary World scholar’s Cup. They debated motions including “Two heads are better than one “and wrote essays on such topics as “Would you like to know what the world will be like 100 years from now”. Lots of JPS students also featured in the talent show, with Gus on Piano; Advey on Guitar; Ayan on Ukulele; Sannat on piano; Tilly and Josephine singing; Reeti on piano; Ahren, Alexandra and Yousef singing; Leen playing Piano; Ahren dancing; When the award ceremony began, JPS were thrilled to receive awards across the board, not only for debating, but also writing and general knowledge. Special mentions go to Carlos Halawi, Yousef Essa and Omar El Toukhy, were recognized as a champion team and to Alexandra Hide, who was awarded champion scholar and recognized for her tremendous debating skills. All 42 children were wonderful ambassadors for JPS and achieved so much both individually and as a group. Their enthusiasm both before and during the event was incredible and we look forward to seeing many of them develop as keen debaters as they enter Year 6. On Thursday 11th May, JPS held its inaugural debate competition for Year 3 and 4 children. The event was attended by invited children from Years 3 and 4 and the adjudicators were amazed by their professional debating skills, organization and presentation. They debated topics including: “Supermarkets should not display sweets at the checkout”; “You should choose a job for love not money” and “We are all alike yet different” The winning team in Year 3 were: and the winners in Year 4 were……. A very well done to them, however the morning was not about winning it was about taking part in a formal debate and the progress the children made from their first debate to the last was incredible. A big thank you to Mrs Jain who organised the event and to HImakshi Shastri, Veda Fernandes, Krish Keswani and Shenaya Bhatia, our experienced debate team from Year 6 who acted as adjudicators. On Tuesday 9th May, 72 Year 2 children from schools across Dubai, gathered in the main hall at JPS to compete in our second Year 2 Maths Challenge. The children enjoyed mathematical challenges, relays and a Kahout quiz. Lots of learning took place and at the end of the morning, the winner was announced as JESS Jumeirah school. A very big well done to the two JPS teams consisting of Kareem Sbeih, Rizin Shafeek, Taehui Kim, Fady Bartella, Alexander Rajji, Sharvi Kalwani, Kabir Lalvani and Benjamin Mac Dougall. Here they are having fun on the day, they just missed out on the medals being awarded 4th and 6th place. A huge thank you to Miss Dana who organised the event and to the Year 6 Mathematicians who were there to help on the day and proved an invaluable support. Last Thursday 40 students, (36 from Year 6 and 4 from Year 5) marched up to Jumeirah College to participate in the UKMT Maths Challenge. They calculated and puzzled over lots of tricky questions, alongside Year 7 and 8 in the exam Hall. Results will be announced towards the end of term.
